Our Mission

Church Profile

If this church had a motto it could be one or both of these:  "Love is Spoken Here," or "We are Family."  John Knox is a small, dynamic church that takes seriously its role to carry out the mission of Christ's church, within our family, community, and worldwide.

This congregation, chartered in 1966, serves the suburban neighborhoods along Westport Road in the northeast quadrant of Jefferson County.  The facility is located on a five-acre campus just one block west of the Rolling Hills Shopping Center and approximately two miles west of Springhurst Town Center and the Gene Snyder Freeway.  Church membership is approximately 100.  For more statistics on the church, click here.

Service and outreach activities of the John Knox family include:

  • The Mother's Center - a drop-in program which brings mothers who do not work outside the home and their young children together with others for fellowship and socialization;
  • The Neighborhood Visitors Program - an emergency assistance organization, located in the church basement and staffed by volunteers, operating a food bank and clothing closet;
  • Habitat for Humanity - Each year, volunteers from the church participate with other Presbyterians in the sponsorship and construction of a "Presbyterian House" for low-income families;
  • Eastern Area Community Ministries - a cooperative effort of more than thirty churches and business partners to minister to needs of residents in the eastern Jefferson County area.

John Knox Presbyterian Church is a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  The congregation fosters a strong relationship with Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary as a site for field education for seminarians.

Sunday Morning Worship    ---     11:00a.m.

Sunday morning worship is central to our congregational life.  Music, common prayer, the children's message, and fellowship time are essential for the wholeness of the worship experience at John Knox.

The sacrament of the Lord's Supper is served the first Sunday of each month.  In addition, the Lord's Supper is celebrated for other special services during the year.  Special services include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, and a service for Wholeness and Healing.

The sacament of Baptism is celebrated as a sign of God's initiating claim upon us when the sacrament is requested by the parents of children or for others not previously baptized.

Visitors will find adequate and convenient parking, child care, after-church refreshments, and a spirit of Christian hospitality.
